Joelle Pineau, Meta Platforms’ Vice President of AI Research and head of the Fundamental AI Research group (FAIR), has announced her decision to step down from her role, effective May 30, 2025. Pineau has been with Meta for nearly eight years, during which she played a pivotal role in advancing the company’s AI initiatives, including the development of the open-source large language model, Llama. Her departure comes at a time when Meta is intensifying its focus on artificial intelligence, with plans to invest between $60 to $65 billion in capital expenditures for 2025, primarily aimed at expanding AI data centers. Pineau’s exit marks a significant transition for Meta as it continues to compete in the rapidly evolving AI landscape. Barron’s WSJ
